The escalating "wrench attacks" in France, targeting crypto holders through physical violence, highlight significant security risks for individuals and could deter broader adoption if not addressed. Artist Pascal Boyart's accusation of government complicity in these attacks, linking it to regulatory actions and KYC, suggests a growing narrative of government overreach impacting the crypto community. The trend of organized crypto kidnappings, often orchestrated by overseas actors and utilizing social media for targeting, indicates a sophisticated criminal element exploiting digital footprints for physical gain.
The FBI's report highlights a significant increase in crypto fraud, with over $11.2 billion lost in 2025, indicating a persistent threat to investor capital and market integrity. Investment fraud, particularly "pig butchering" schemes and fake exchanges, is the primary driver of these losses, underscoring the need for enhanced user education and platform security measures. The FBI's successful freezing of over 3,000 illicit wallets and recovery of $500 million demonstrates the effectiveness of public-private collaboration and on-chain analytics in combating crypto crime. The increasing use of AI in cybercrime, contributing nearly $893 million in losses, signals a new frontier of threats that will require adaptive security strategies and regulatory oversight.

Quick market read from this story
A significant 1,086% surge in SHIB token burns, removing over 23 million tokens from circulation, indicates increased community-driven supply reduction efforts.
While the burn rate increase is notable, its direct impact on SHIB's price is likely limited given the massive existing supply and the nature of meme coin volatility.
The concurrent report of growing SHIB holder numbers and decreasing exchange holdings suggests potential accumulation by long-term holders, though this is not a direct price catalyst.
Deep Dive
The Shibburn portal has reported a dramatic 1,086% surge in the Shiba Inu (SHIB) burn rate over the past 24 hours, with a total of 23,729,119 SHIB tokens destroyed. This significant increase in token destruction was facilitated by ten separate burn transactions, including several large transfers that moved millions of SHIB to unspendable wallets. The largest single burn event removed 14,235,163 SHIB from circulation.
Since May 2021, the Shiba Inu community has successfully burned a staggering 410,754,609,891,520 SHIB. A significant portion of these early burns was initiated by Vitalik Buterin, who received half of the initial SHIB supply and burned 90% of it, donating the remainder to charity.
In parallel with the increased burn activity, the SHIB development team has noted a consistent rise in the number of SHIB holders. The total number of SHIB wallets has recently reached 1,558,200, with monthly increases ranging from 8,500 to 12,000 new wallets.
Analysis of SHIB holdings reveals that the top ten wallets control 62.65% of the total SHIB supply. The burn wallet holds the largest quantity, followed by major cryptocurrency exchanges such as Binance, Bybit, and Robinhood.
Furthermore, the amount of SHIB held on exchanges has been declining, now standing at 80.9 trillion SHIB. This trend indicates that large holders, or 'whales,' have been actively withdrawing their SHIB from exchanges.
